| outside on Lyttleton Street |
On a cold and blustery winter's day recently, we decided that a quick lunch somewhere warm would be nice and we settled on Tog’s. We hadn’t been for about a year, having been pretty underwhelmed by it the few times we had gone there when we first moved to the area. But we thought we’d give it another go. As we drove up and parked the car out the front it didn’t even look open, no-one coming and no-one going. Normally there are a few brave souls seated out the front, even on
such a cold day.

But open it was and when we stepped inside it was packed, we were
lucky to get the last free table and that was only because a very nice lady who
was seated by herself at a table for 2 gave up her spot for us and relocated to
the communal table. Very kind of her as it allowed us the opportunity to get a
fresh look at Tog’s, and their winter menu.
Cosy atmosphere inside, nice and warm and the staff were friendly and attentive.

Lots of great sounding dishes
for us to try but both hubby and I chose the roast beef and onion gravy toasted
sandwich and it was SUPER delicious! It was really, really nice, one of the
yummiest things I’ve had in recent times.
Everything about it was perfect.
The beef had that nice 'last night’s roast' quality to it, but it was juicy and tender and the gravy was firm enough to not run everywhere but not so firm as to have a weird texture. It was fantastic, and they even did a halfway decent soy latte. We were seated quite near the front door so we could see that people kept arriving hopeful of a lovely lunch, but having to leave disappointed instead.

Given that Tog’s is somewhat tucked away in a semi back street of Castlemaine,
plus how unassuming and not open it looked from the outside, I found that
surprising. But based on the roast beef sandwich alone, they deserve every
success!
